Callaway debuts Big Bertha Fusion Driver, Fairways

Callaway has announced the launch of the Big Bertha Fusion Driver and Fairway Woods, using breakthrough construction methods and space-age materials to set new standards in forgiveness and distance for all golfers.

The Big Bertha Fusion Driver, Callaway’s most forgiving ever, marries an all-new aerospace-grade titanium exoskeleton called Exo-Cage with an ultra-lightweight triaxial carbon crown and sole plates, resulting in dramatically higher levels of forgiveness.

The fusion of Exo-Cage with triaxial carbon positions substantially more weight in the perimeter and far back from the face compared to previous drivers, resulting in a driver that has a 26% higher MOI, compared to XR 16.

This weight re-positioning has also helped create an appealing, new head shape, reminiscent of Callaway’s popular FT-iZ Driver, that combines fast aerodynamics with high MOI. This new shape delivers enhanced acoustics for a satisfying impact sound with superior feel.

The development of triaxial carbon has been made possible by the deep knowledge Callaway has gained from years of experience incorporating carbon materials into its woods, stretching back to the first Fusion range, launched in 2004.

Nearly 50% of the body of the new driver is triaxial carbon, but this accounts for only 11% of the overall weight. R·MOTO Face technology also ensures the Fusion’s incredible forgiveness is perfectly married to ball speed, creating maximum distance for all golfing abilities.

Dr. Alan Hocknell, Senior Vice President of Research and Development, Callaway Golf, said: “Triaxial carbon technology, fused with our industry-leading manufacturing techniques and exhaustive research and design work, has created a truly outstanding driver, with incredible forgiveness and performance attributes which all golfers will enjoy.

“By using multi-materials and saving weight in the head to subsequently reposition it to aid performance, it is incredible to think we have created a driver that has a 23% higher MOI than the XR 16, in itself a great product.”

Available in 9°, 10.5° and 13.5° HT loft options, the club is also supplied in two shaft lengths, a 44.5in shaft marries to a head that features a 12g back weight for enhanced control and tighter dispersion, whereas a longer 45.5in shaft is coupled to a head with a 5g back weight for greater distance potential.

Premium stock shaft offerings are the 45g/55g Recoil ES 440/450 or the 65g Diamana Red Board, with a Golf Pride New Decade Platinum grip as standard.

Designed alongside the Fusion Driver, the new high MOI Fusion Fairways, available in 3 (15°), 5 (18°) and 7 Wood (21°) options, benefit from a Carbon Composite Crown, Speed Step technology and tried-and-tested Hyper Speed Face Cup technology.

Both the Fusion Driver and Fairway Woods will be in store from October 16, 2016.
