Lefties on right track with partnership

The National Association of Left Handed Golfers NSW Division (NALG-NSW) and NALGA have partnered the NSW/ACT PGA in a new scholarship program for up-and-coming left-handed golfers.

Nowra Golf Club trainee professional Paul Maiolo is the inaugural recipient of the award which will see him become an ambassador for the NALG NSW along with the financial benefit of having his $3500 annual education and membership fees covered under the agreement.

Maiolo is in the final year of his three-year traineeship and is an accomplished player having won on the NSW/ACT Pro-Am and trainee circuits. While his focus is on completing his playing and educational requirements of the traineeship, his aspirations lie as a player on tour.

“I’d like to give myself a really good go at playing. I love coaching but want to see how my game will hold up at the highest level,” Maiolo said.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to representing the lefties.”

The scholarship will see Maiolo promote the NALG through his pro-am competitions and also at his workplace at Nowra Golf Club.

The program was initiated by NALG NSW Vice President Langdon Emery who wanted to give greater opportunity to an up-and-coming golf professional. Association Secretary John Mesley said: “Paul’s experience and maturity made him our choice for our first year of the scholarship. He comes across as an honest, enthusiastic and likeable young man and we hope our sponsorship will allow him to achieve his goals.”
