Injured Fowler misses FedEx to rest for Ryder Cup
It was clear that Ricky Fowler was struggling in the final round of the USPGA Championship.
Now the popular American will miss this week’s first round of the lucrative FedEx Cup Playoffs as he struggles to get fit and healthy for the tough road ahead.

Fowler revealed that, following an MRI exam he had a partial tear of his right oblique muscle.
That obviously affected his play at the PGA as he began the final round two shots behind before fading to finish in a tie for 12th.
Yet Fowler insists he will be “more than ready” for the Ryder Cup when the American team heads for Le Golf National just outside of Paris for the September 28-30 matches with Europe.
“My team and I feel like its best not to play next week in the Northern Trust,” Fowler explained in a post on Instagram.
“I will be back healthy and competitive ASAP for the FedEx Cup and more than ready for the Ryder Cup.”
Fowler did admit that the injury had also affected him the previous week of the PGA when he tied for 17th at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Of course his spot on the US team is assured as he is one of the eight players who have already qualified for the US Ryder Cup team on points.
Team captain Jim Furyk is still to add four more ‘wildcard’ picks to his team.
