Karrie Webb enjoying the form of her life
Seems like she has been around for ever – yet, amazingly, Karrie Webb is still in her 30s.
OK, so she’s 39 but Webb’s will-to-win and her skills are as sharp as they have ever been and it would surprise no-one if she finished the year as the No 1 player in the world – again.
And the Queenslander last week admitted she was more comfortable with her golf game than at any stage of her career.
“I just think I understand myself a lot more,” she said before teeing up in the first major championship of the year, the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills in California last week.
“I now understand each and every day what part of my game is there and what’s not.
“If it’s all there, I’m pretty happy about that. But I just manage myself pretty well.”
Webb says that early in her career she was very good mentally but didn’t know how exactly she was approaching that.
“I think I’ve learnt that side of the game a lot in the last 10 years,” she said.
“I feel like I’m as in good a place mentally on the golf course as I ever have been, probably because I understand what it takes out there, and what it takes for me to play well.”
Webb is just one year older than Tiger Woods and four years younger than Phil Mickelson yet unlike those heroes of the PGA Tour, Webb’s best golf is still being produced – consistently.
She’s fit and healthy and was leading the LPGA’s money list going into the Kraft Nabisco.
The worst thing anyone of her juniors – or anyone else for that matter – could do, is write her off.
