Minjee Lee wins Aon’s $US1 million bonus

Despite a lacklustre second half of the year, Australia’s Minjee Lee is enjoying her best season on the LPGA Tour.

And news just got better for the 26-year-old after picking up a cool US$1 million cheque for winning the season-long Aon Risk Reward Challenge.

The Perth-native secured her first title of the season at the Cognizant Founders Cup in May followed a month later by a second major title at the US Women’s Open among six top-10 finishes and close to $4 million in prizemoney.

“It’s inspiring to see a company like Aon show up for women’s golf in such a big way, and the equal prize money really showcases their dedication to gender equity, both on and off the golf course.” said Lee.

“I’ve had a great season this year, and winning the Aon Risk Reward Challenge is just the cherry on top.”

Lee enters this week’s CME Group Tour Championship, the final event of the LPGA season, in third place on the Race to CME and second in the LPGA’s Rolex Player Of The Year race.

A win or second place on Sunday would see Lee break Lorena Ochoa’s long-standing record of $4.37 million in prizemoney set way back in 2007.

Either way, it’s been a heck of a year for the Aussie superstar, who will return home for the Women’s Australian Open from December 1.
