Norman tweets old beer ad for Coronavirus relief

Greg Norman took to Twitter to post a video from the year he put his stamp on world golf with his first major win.

“No matter what anyone says we all can make it! Sending positive vibes to all today, we WILL get through this chaos. Hope this lightens your day. Be safe, smart, and above all stay healthy. #TBT,” tweeted Norman.

The ad, which was for Western Australia’s Swan Lager, recreates Norman’s famous win at the 1986 Open Championship at Turnberry.

That year, The Shark held the lead in all four majors going into the final round but came away with just the one major title.

Norman had a chance to take Jack Nicklaus into a playoff at the Masters but missed a par putt on the 18th hole while at the US Open he fired a final round 75 to finish well behind eventual winner Raymond Floyd.

However, he did win 11 titles across the world that year including four in Australia and two on the PGA Tour including his second Kemper Open trophy and the Las Vegas Invitational. Those victories gave him the Australian Order Of Merit win, the PGA Tour moneylist title and the World No.1 ranking so, not a bad year overall.

The Shark is also embracing Twitch with a live streamed golf lesson to raise money for the World Health Organisation to help fight COVID-19.
