Tour challenges Andy Sullivan to 500-ball ace chase
There were a few swears and curses thrown in but the overall reaction, worldwide, won England’s Andy Sullivan quite a few more fans.
In an ongoing series, the popular Pom was handed 500 golf balls by the European Tour and challenged if he could bag a hole-in-one with that many shots.
Could he succeed where Italian Edoardo Molinari and South African Brandon Stone failed and hit that one perfect shot?
Even then Sullivan would be defying the odds because the mathematicians will tell you an average golfer’s odds of an ace are 100,000-1 while a European Tour pro’s odds are pretty long too…about one in 2,500.
Certainly Sullivan’s attempts drew some great comments as he attacked the par three 11th hole at the Heritage Course at London Golf Club with a plethora of shots.
Instagram and Twitter came alive with comments and here’s just a few of what some of his fellow pros had to say:
Former US PGA champion Justin Thomas said: “Andy Sullivan, you’re a legend. I want no piece of you from 171 yards.”
Fellow Englishman Ian Poulter simply commented: “This is awesome.”
American Tony Finau’s comment was: Straight gold from Andy Sullivan and the European Tour.”
England’s Ross Fisher: “Sully you absolute legend. That was sooo much fun to watch. Congrats bud.”
Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell’s remarks probably summed it up best though: “I love these videos. Kinda captures the emotional rollercoaster that is golf.”
“Sully has one of my favourite swings. Effortless power.”
“He hits some great shots here and felt like his temperament was in a nice spot to get it done, but that gets tested.”
So how did Sullivan fare with his 500 shots at ‘goal’?
Well, you’ll just have to watch the video – and share some of his laughs and cries of anguish with his efforts to find out.
