17-yo Babnik wins in France, Kyriacou T15

17-year-old Pia Babnik has defeated England’s Annabel Dimmock on the first playoff hole to win the Ladies European Tour’s Jabra Ladies Open in France.

Babnik, who hails from Slovenia, took the clubhouse lead with birdies at the the 17th and 18th holes before Dimmock joined her on 4-under with a birdie at her final hole to force the playoff.

“I feel amazing. I enjoyed the whole week here and I’m really glad it turned out like this. I dreamt about this for a long time, I work really hard and I’m really happy it paid off. I’ve been wishing this for a while,” said Babnik.

The youngster, who only joined the LET in 2020 and has already enjoyed a handful of top-10 finishes, moves to the top of Race to Costa del Sol rankings with her win.

The victory also earns Babnik a start at the LPGA’s flagship European event – The Amundi Evian Championship 2021.

Sydney’s Stephanie Kyriacou lead the way for the only two Aussies in the field finishing in equal 15th. The 20-year-old fought back from an opening round of 76 to finish seven shots off the pace and now moves to 12th place on the Race to Costa del Sol.

Whitney Hillier shared 23rd on 5-over.
