Bland miraculously found himself at nine-under-par through 14 holes. When asked about his round and any thoughts of a magical 59, Bland replied “I wasn’t thinking about anything like that, just hit a bad drive on 16 which lead to a double bogey.”

Leigh McKechnie recorded the low round of the morning players with a splendid five-under-par 66.

The Newcastle native has continued his impressive form following on from his top-ten finishes at The Clark Group Yowani Pro-Am and the Parkhill Financial Queanbeyan Pro-Am. McKechnie takes a one shot lead into the final round.

Craig Parry improved on his first round with a one-under par 70, sharing the same score was tour veteran Terry Price. Two-time champion, Anthony Summers fired a one-under round of 70 which sees him in a tie for fourth place at five-under.

In the women’s event, Sarah Oh maintained her two-shot lead over Courtney Massey, however it was West Australian Kristie Smith who leapt up the women’s leader board with a superb six-under-par round 66.

Smith, who struggled on day one, started slowly but took charge with five birdies in seven holes. Smith is now five shots back of Oh who leads at eight-under-par.

Courtney Massey and Frances Bondad by two and four shots respectively.
