Cameron Smith qualifies for U.S. Open
Australia’s Cameron Smith, the 2014 Asian Tour Rookie of the Year, has qualified for the U.S. Open through sectional qualifying after firing four birdies across his last six holes.
The 21-year-old Smith shot rounds of 69 and 67 for an eight-under-par 136 total in Ohio to finish tied 7th. He will take his place in the year’s second Major at Chambers Bay in Washington next week.

Smith’s qualification takes the Australian total to eight including Adam Scott, Jason Day, John Senden, Kurt Barnes, Marc Leishman, Geoff Ogilvy, and Marcus Fraser.
There is one last avenue for qualification at this week’s FedEx St Jude Classic, where the top 60 on the world rankings who have not already qualified will earn a US Open berth.
Steven Bowditch at 64th and Matt Jones at 72nd will need to perform at their best to sneak across the line come Sunday afternoon in Memphis.
