COVID uncertainty forces NT PGA postponement

Let’s hope it’s not a sign of things to come for the upcoming summer of golf.

The PGA Tour of Australasia has announced that the Northern Territory PGA Championship has been postponed until September due to ongoing travel restrictions in place across the Eastern seaboard.

The tournament was due to be played from August 19-22 at at Palmerston Golf & Country Club but will now move back to a tentative start date of September 16.

“While it’s disappointing to need to postpone, with the three largest states in the country currently locked out, a large percentage of our field would not be able to participate,” said Nick Dastey, Tournaments Director Australasia for the PGA of Australia.

“Since the inaugural event in 2016 the NT PGA Championship has been built into one of the favourite stops on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and we want to ensure we continue to bring the high level of golf the Territorians have come to expect.”

The NT PGA Championship, which was one of only a handful of local tournaments to go ahead in 2020, was won by home-town hero Aaron Pike.
