DeChambeau to return from injury at WGC-Dell

It’s not the first time Bryson DeChambeau has announced that he’ll make his return from injury this season but the World No.13 is officially listed in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play bracket so this time it might just be true.

DeChambeau hasn’t played on the PGA Tour since missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January. He then pulled out of the Saudi International before teasing on social media that he would be back to defend his Arnold Palmer Invitational title. He later withdrew from that event and The Players Championship.

“I don’t want to go out there and hurt myself even more and not be 100% ready for the rest of the season. I don’t want to come back early and then have to take more time off, so it’s a hard decision I have to make right now,” said DeChambeau in a video posted online.

Working in favour of the 28-year-old is that the tournament in Austin, Texas is a relatively short commute to his home with DeChambeau a resident of nearby Dallas.

The 2020 US Open champion and 9th seed is paired with European Tour winner, Richard Bland (54th seed) in the first round of the $12,000,000 64-man event, which begins Wednesday night AEST time and a day earlier than usual for PGA Tour events.
