Fewkes, Hinson-Tolchard win Australian Junior titles
West Australian local Connor Fewkes has won the 2018 Australian Boys’ Amateur with a two-shot victory at Gosnells Golf Club west of Perth on Friday.
Fawkes’ final-day rounds of 72 and 67 were enough to claim the title at 5-under par to spearhead a leaderboard packed with locals including Jordan Jung, who finished runner up at 3-under, Jose De Sousa at 1-under, Cooper Geddes (-1).
Queenslander Louis Dobbelaar was the lone interstate rival in third at 2-under.
Fewkes began the final round behind both Geddes and De Sousa, however with two birdies on the front nine and a further two on the back, the championship was his.
The win guarantees Fewkes entry to the Australian Open at The Lakes Golf Club in November.
In the Girls’ championship it was another win for Western Australia with Maddison Hinson-Tolchard securing a three-shot victory at the Australian Girls’ Amateur at Royal Perth Golf Club, shooting an incredible 14 under par to claim the title.
Grace Kim from New South Wales was second at 11-under-par followed by Cassie Porter at 5-under.
