Griffin returns for Victorian Open defence

The popular Oates Victorian Open will once again feature a strong field at Barwon Head’s 13th Beach Golf Links this week.

Victorian Matthew Griffin will defend his title against a deep field that includes most of the recent winners on the PGA Tour of Australasia including Masters winner Nick Cullen, Dimi Papadatos, Steven Jeffress, Ryan Lynch, Ryan Fox and Lincoln Tighe.

Richard Green returns from a solid start to his European Tour season during the Tour’s Middle East leg to play his home state Open, joining Peter Lonard, Michael Sim, Nathan Green, Stephen Leaney, Mark Brown, Adam Bland, Kurt Barnes and Scott Strange in an imposing list of veterans in search of the title.

Much interest will lie in the prospects of big-hitting Todd Sinnott who has recently turned professional after earning his card at December’s Qualifying School.

Two players who have been missing from the scene for some time, Mark Hensby and Won Joon Lee, will also be welcome additions to the field who will share the stage and $300,000 purse with the ALPG for the Women’s Victorian Open.

The women will play on the Creek course while the men will play on the Beach course during rounds one and two. After the weekend cut, rounds three and four will be played concurrently for both the men and women on the Beach course.
