Holman cashes in at Capricorn Classic
Victoria’s Nathan Holman made the most of his first trip to the Mercure Capricorn Resort by taking out the $100,000 Pat O’Driscoll Real Estate Tropical Auto Group Golf Classic by a single stroke from Clint Rice and Andrew Dodt.
Holman made the turn in even par to be three strokes behind Rice who had blitzed the front nine in five-under par. Holman made his run with birdies at 12, 15 and 17 while Rice completed the 72 holes at 18-under to join Dodt in the clubhouse lead.

Needing a birdie to take the title, Holman played the final hole flawlessly to reach the par-five in two and calmly two putted for the win.
The win was perfect timing for the Victorian who within hours of sinking the winning putt, was starting the long haul from central Queensland to Europe to play on the European Challenge Tour from next week.
“This is a great win leading into the next couple of weeks and although the win here today has not yet sunk in, I am sure it will over the next 30 hours sitting on planes.” said Holman, who will be comforted on the long flight by the winner’s cheque of $17,980.
“This is my first trip to the Capricorn Classic and it is no doubt one of the best Pro Ams I have played in Australia. The facility is second to none with two great courses and accommodation that creates a wonderful atmosphere throughout the tournament week.”
“I am very happy to have won here today and I look forward to taking this form to Europe over the next few weeks.”
Dodt and Rice earned $8,550 each as joint runners-up while Queensland’s Gavin Flint tied the course record on the final day with an 11-under par round of 61 to finish at 14-under par and in a tie for 11th.
