Kim, Kalz win 2017 Victorian Junior Masters
Holes in one, course record scores and two worthy winners…the 2017 Victorian Junior Masters had the lot.
In the end it was Grace Kim from the Avondale Golf Club in Sydney and Glenelg Golf Club’s (South Australia) Jackson Kalz who emerged victorious in hot and testing conditions at the Waverley and Churchill Park courses south east of Melbourne.

There was a record turnout for the event too and with no cut everybody had the chance to make their presence felt with the fields divided over the two courses and the leaders heading to Waverley for an afternoon tee-time.
Kono Matsumoto shot an equal course-record of five-under par to surge into equal second place with Victorian Women’s Amateur champion Alizza Hetherington in the Girls’ section but still fell two shots short of overhauling Kim, who led by a shot at the turn and went on with the job in fine style on the back nine to take the title.
The Boys’ section was also abuzz with excitement when there were two holes-in-one from consecutive groups on the 5th hole at Waverley.
No sooner had the dust settled from Keeley Marx acing the par-three fifth then just 12 minutes later Ethan Chen did the same thing, finding the bottom of the cup with the perfect tee shot in the following group.
The Boys’ Championship also produced an exciting finish with Kalz holding off an unlucky Queenslander in Zach Maxwell to record a one-shot win.
Indeed Maxwell surged to an early two-shot final-round lead before bogeying holes 15, 16 and 17 to find Kalz had drawn level.
After knocking it on the green for two at the last Kalz made birdie while all Maxwell could do was right the ship with a par to lose his title shot.
