Muirfield has seniors primed for Senior Open
Five seniors bound for the Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale tomorrow will be primed for a great showing, having made the cut at The Open Championship at Muirfield last week.
Defending champion Fred Couples, Peter Senior, Tom Lehman, Mark O’Meara and Sandy Lyle all endured a tough links assignment to make the weekend at the 142nd Open Championship.

Couples was particularly impressive, improving with every round shooting 75, 74, 73, 71 to tie for 32nd place, and will arrive at Birkdale with fond memories of the course where he tied 3rd in 1991 Open behind champion Ian Baker-Finch.
O’Meara was a shot from the lead after a brilliant opening 67 and has twice tasted success at Royal Birkdale, winning The Open Championship in 1998 and the Lawrence Batley International in 1987.
Recent back-to-back Senior major champion Kenny Perry is not making the trip to England this week after opting to rest at home after a hectic past few months.
His absence provides an added opportunity for those with recent links form from Muirfield to parlay that into success at Birkdale.
Australians with exempt status joining Senior in the field include Steve Elkington, Peter Fowler and Terry Price while New Zealander Greg Turner will take his place after turning 50 earlier this year.
