NSW Bowl keeps it in the family
There is something extra special about winning a golf event when paired with another member of your family.
For that reason the annual NSW Family Bowl is among the more popular events put on by Golf NSW in recent years.
2010 Runners-up were Shane Barlow and his 14-year-old son Blake
And news that this year’s Family Bowl will be played at Bowral Golf Club in the Southern Highlands will further enhance the appeal of this still fairly-new event.
The Family Bowl gives any combination of family members an opportunity to play and enjoy the day together, competing against other family pairs. As long as there is an immediate family relationship, they can form a team.
Winners in 2010 were the husband and wife combination of Denis and Adele Cranfield from Camden Valley Golf Resort.
Despite being first timers to the championship, the Cranfields shot a great round of 48 stableford points and were understandably over the moon with their win.
The Cranfields’ sons also played in the event as a pairing, making it a real family day out.
Finishing a close second were the father and son pairing of Shane and Blake Barlow (Kareela and Cronulla Golf Clubs) with 47 points.
Blake Barlow was actually listed as the youngest competitor on the day at just 14-years-of-age.
Obviously, this competition is played in pairs, in the categories of men’s, women’s and mixed.
Prizes are awarded for nett scores in each of the above categories, as well as for the overall winning pair.
Golf NSW general manager of golf programs Graeme Phillipson told Golfer Pacific: “This event is a real opportunity for family members to come together and enjoy a game of golf in a unique and fun event.
“This will be the fourth year of this event, and it continues to grow in popularity – it’s quite simply a great day out.”
Entries are now open for the February 20 event and you can enter on-line for just $100 a pair www.golfnsw.org.
Other entries cost $110 a pair and your fee includes lunch and refreshments at the end of the day.
Entries close on Friday, February 4.
