O’Hern happy to be home for WA Open
West Australian Nick O’Hern has returned to his home club of Mount Lawley Golf Course for the John Hughes Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship.
Having travelled 36 hours from the US, O’Hern is relishing the opportunity to play a PGA Tour of Australasia on his home course.

“I have always enjoyed coming back to Australia and I always seem to play well here,” said O’Hern.
“We just have a different vibe here in Australia compared to America so it’s nice to be back.”
O’Hern says that winning his state Open for the first time on the Mount Lawley layout would be the icing on the cake.
“It’s not often you get to play your home club and there is a tournament on. To win this week would be the perfect scenario.”
“My goal is always to play as well as I can and give myself a chance on the last nine holes on Sunday. I know that if I play well around here I will give myself that chance.”
It would also be a step in the right direction following a tough year in America.
“I didn’t keep my card this year which was the first time ever,” added O’Hern who has played on the PGA TOUR since 2005.
“I probably played as good as I ever have this year but the putting let me down.”
“I have a full schedule on the Web.com Tour next year which will be good. I will try and work my way back on to the PGA TOUR. It will be a good challenge.”
O’Hern teed it up in the morning pro-am today and had his first look at the course in two years.
“I have been a member here for 30 years. It’s a very familiar course for me.”
“It has changed since I last played here so I have to do a little bit of homework on some of the holes.”
The John Hughes Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship tees off at Mount Lawley Golf Club from 10 – 13 October.
The first round will get underway at 6.40am with Nick O’Hern on course at 7.10am. For all tee times please click here.
