Senior awarded Charles Bonham trophy

On the back of his victory at the Australian PGA Championship, Peter Senior has been presented with a second PGA trophy for his efforts at Hyatt Regency Coolum last week.

After the Queensland PGA Championship was successfully played at City Golf Club in November 2009, the tournament schedule has been restructured with the next staging of the prestigious event from 24th – 27th February 2011.

That being said and with no name due to be on the Charles Bonham Trophy in 2010, it was confirmed earlier this year that the winner of the 2010 Australian PGA Championship would also be given the title of Queensland PGA Champion.

In a presentation yesterday at Australia’s largest one day Pro Am – Bartons/BMD Wynnum Pro Am, Senior was presented with the Charles Bonham Trophy and will once again have his name etched in Queensland PGA history. Senior, who also won the Queensland PGA Championship in 1987, was delighted to once again have his name on such a prestigious trophy.

“You look at the names on this trophy from Greg Norman to Ian Baker Finch, not to mention up and coming players like Steven Bowditch who won last year, and it is not hard to see why this is the most sort after trophy we have in Queensland.”

“To have my name back on here 24 years after my first Queensland PGA win is indescribable and to be honest, if someone had told me a few years ago that it was possible I probably would have laughed at them.”

During the presentation, Queensland PGA Tournament Chairman and former Queensland PGA Champion Peter McWhinney talked about Senior’s reputation in the Sunshine State.

“I can’t think of another player throughout history that is more iconic in Queensland than Peter Senior. His bulldog like competitive nature and his ability to get the job done down the stretch is something that the entire golfing public here in Queensland and in fact throughout Australia, can appreciate.”

Today, Senior will turn from profile player to host, when the 16th staging of the Peter Senior Charity Pro Am is played at Links Hope Island. With more than $1 Million raised for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation over the past 15 years, it is another great example of why Peter is considered one of the most respected members of the Australian PGA.
