Senior receives Nedbank Challenge invite
The invitation-only Nedbank Challenge at Sun City in South Africa decided to hold a special ‘Seniors-only’ section a couple of years ago.
This year the event will put a new slant on that when it invites a “Senior” into the main event.

Australian Open champion Peter Senior will become the first Senior to contest the major event when he takes his place in the elite field which traditionally contains many of the best players in the world.
The invitation is just one of the spoils of victory for Senior as something of a reward for beating the “flat bellies” in the Emirates Australian Open at The Lakes last year.
Senior would have been thrilled when it was announced last week that the 2012 PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit winner would receive an invitation to play the Nedbank Challenge in December.
With only 30 players in the field and prizemoney of $6.5 million, it’s the perfect windfall for Senior to be asked to tee it up alongside the likes of major champions Ernie Els, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel and a host of other big names in the December 5-8 event.
“Truthfully, I’m delighted to get the opportunity to play in the Nedbank Challenge at the end of the year,” said Senior, who has been campaigning on the rich US Seniors Tour for most of the year where he currently sits in 21st position in their lucrative Charles Schwab Cup points score race.
“It’s not often you get an invite to an event like this and it is a really great bonus for winning the 2012 PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit,” Senior said.
The Queensland star is also looking forward to defending his Emirates Australian Open crown at Royal Sydney the week before heading for South Africa.
