Webb heads field for 2013 Women’s Open

A stellar showcase of the world’s best golfers will descend on Australia’s capital city next summer for the 2013 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open to be played from 14-17 February at Royal Canberra Golf Club.

The championship, which comes to Canberra for the first time in its history, is part of the 2013 Centenary of Canberra celebrations and will again be the season-opening event on the global LPGA Tour with prize money of US$1.2 million.

Headlining the early commitments to the event is four time champion and World Golf Hall of Fame member Australian Karrie Webb.

Webb has won 7 Major Championships and 38 times on the LPGA Tour over an illustrious career and is looking forward to teeing it up in Canberra.

“This championship has prided itself in recent years in bringing the best players in the world to Australia and 2013 will continue that trend. We look forward to welcoming the international stars back to Australia and to having our four-time champion Karrie back with us again,” said Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt.

ABC TV will again broadcast comprehensive coverage of the championship across all four days.
