Zach Johnson named 2023 US Ryder Cup captain

The PGA of America has named Zach Johnson as the US Captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome.

The 46-year-old will now add another chapter to an already successful career that includes two major titles, 12 PGA Tour wins along with five Ryder Cup and four Presidents Cup appearances.

Johnson has served as an assistant captain for the past two Ryder Cup teams including last year’s 19-9 historic thrashing of the Europeans at Whistling Straits under Steve Stricker.

“To accept this Captaincy, to lead this United States Ryder Cup Team abroad…is simply the greatest honour of my professional career,” said Johnson.

“I want to thank the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for this special opportunity. As exciting as this is for both my family and me, it is equally sobering to understand the scope of our challenge in Rome, as we have not won on the road in three decades.”

“I am anxious to dig in and begin the process of putting our team in the best possible position to succeed.”

The 2023 Ryder Cup will tee off from Sep 29 – Oct 1, with Team USA looking to notch up its first win on European soil since The Belfry in England in 1993 where Tom Watson’s men won the trophy 15–13.
