Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship in only his second major start, holing a 7-iron to seven feet on the final hole at Harding Park in 2020. The Open Championship followed at Royal St George’s the next summer, making him the first player ever to win two different majors in his debut starts at each.
A fourth-generation Japanese-Chinese American who grew up in La Cañada Flintridge near Los Angeles, Morikawa played college golf at Cal-Berkeley before turning pro in 2019. He has been a fixture at the top of the strokes-gained approach standings ever since.
He married Katherine Zhu, his college sweetheart and a former Pepperdine golfer, in 2022. They live in Las Vegas and travel together full-time during the season — Zhu carries Morikawa’s bag at the Masters Par-3 contest each April.
