Jack Nicklaus’s signature event at Muirfield Village, played 28-31 May 2026. The Memorial is the elevated signature event with a $20 million purse and a 73-player limited field. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is chasing a third consecutive Memorial title.

The Nicklaus legacy

Jack Nicklaus has hosted the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village every year since 1976 — the longest unbroken non-major streak on the PGA Tour. The course is Nicklaus’s most-personal design project, built on land 12 miles from his Upper Arlington childhood home, and remains the template he revisits for every subsequent Nicklaus Design international course. The Muirfield Village clubhouse contains the most complete Nicklaus-career memorabilia collection outside the Masters Tournament’s clubhouse at Augusta National.

2020-2021 restoration

The Nicklaus-led restoration tightened the rough lines, rebuilt every greenside bunker on the property, reduced the green sizes on the par-3 16th and par-4 18th, and added 250 yards across 10 of the 18 holes. The 18th green’s new front-right tier has changed the strategic profile of the closing hole — what was a kick-slope for back-pin Sundays is now a true two-tier green that demands a precise approach.

Form notes

Scottie Scheffler has won the 2024 and 2025 editions back-to-back — the first repeat at Muirfield Village since Tiger Woods in 2000-2001. His 2025 win at -10 is the lowest winning score at the venue since the par was standardised at 72. The 2026 field is limited to 73 players in the elevated-event format, with a $20 million purse and $4 million to the winner. The Presidents Cup record at the course (2013) and the Solheim Cup record (1998) both sit alongside the regular Memorial logs in the Muirfield Village clubhouse.
